Wolverine Pride
The wolverine (Gulo gulo) is an extremely resourceful animal. They get the job done any way they can. Although usually calm, the wolverine is one of the most fierce and fearless animals when it needs to be. Pound for pound, the wolverine is one of the toughest animals found in nature.
A player who wishes to be successful should strive to embody the same characteristics of ferocity, fearlessness and resourcefulness that the wolverine demonstrates. Stay tough and have a great year!
Practices
Players: practices are a very important part of your success in basketball. It is up to you to stay focused and give 100% every day. Only you can push yourself to your potential.
Practices will take place M, T and Th. from 2:45-4:10 (W from 3:35 to 5:00). We will not be having practice on half days or days we have a game. There will be no practices over Mid-Winter Break. The activity bus leaves at 4:20 M, T and Th. and at 5:10 on W. Because of occasional gym space conflicts, we may have occasional morning practices, but not often. Morning practices will run from 9:00-10:00 on Wednesdays.
When finished dressing, players should stay in the locker room until we all go out as a team.
Health & Safety
In order to have a healthy and successful year please make note of the following items:
- Students should have their own water bottle for games. We will not be providing them, and to avoid the spread of germs no player shall share their water with another player.
- Covid-19: See the Covid-19 page for details.
Eligibility
Participating in basketball is a privilege. In order to participate in basketball at Pine Lake you must meet the following criteria:
- You must be passing all your classes (no Fs)
- Behavior in school must be appropriate.
- Behavior at practice must be appropriate.
- You must be healthy and be on the eligibility list.
- Uniform must be complete.
- Unless you are sick or hurt, in order to play in the game, you must attend the practice prior to the game.
- Per district rules, you must have 8 practices prior to the first game. Tryouts will count as part of the 8.
- If you need to miss practice or a game, you MUST TALK TO YOUR COACH IN PERSON OR EMAIL AND LET THEM KNOW. THIS NEEDS TO HAPPEN BEFORE THE GAME OR PRACTICE.
If any of these criteria are not followed, it may result in probation or not being able to play in the game. If we have a problem with your behavior in practices or games we will give you a written warning that must be signed by your parent(s). If you accumulate 2 written warnings and we still have a problem, you will no longer be able to participate in basketball. Additionally, playing for Pine Lake is a privilege. If we get reports of poor behavior in your classes, that will impact your position on the team.
Grades will be checked within 10 days of the beginning of the season. If you have a failing grade, you will be placed on academic probation for 10 days. You may practice and compete during these 10 days. If after the first 10-day probation you are still failing you will be placed on a second 10-day probation. During the second 10 days you will be able to practice but will not be able to compete in a game. If you are still failing after the second 10-day probation, you will not be able to practice or compete. You will be removed from probation as soon as the grades are raised.
If you are referred to the office for disciplinary reasons (in class) more than twice during the season, you may be suspended depending on the severity of the infractions.
If you acquire 3 unexcused practices at any time during the season, you will not be able to compete in the following game.
Home Games
When we host games, we are representing Pine Lake. Be courteous and helpful to players, coaches, managers and fans from other schools. If you are not playing in the first game, you should be in the stands with the rest of the team. You will change during the third quarter and your coach will meet with you during the fourth quarter.
The games will begin as close to 3:30 as possible. Be sure to arrange a ride home from Pine Lake after the home games as well as the away games (unless you are taking the bus home from away games. There will be NO bus service for home games)
MASKS MUST BE WORN BY ALL PARTICIPANTS (INCLUDING PARENTS) WHILE IN THE GYM. Players playing in the game do not have to wear masks.
Away Games
In order for the coaches to be able to focus on the games in progress it is very important for the other players to be responsible for themselves. You are expected to be ready for your game when it is time to start. We will be warming up as a team. The coaches will not tolerate misbehavior. Stay with the team and encourage your teammates. Misconduct will lead to written warnings.
It is also important to remember you are a representative of Pine Lake. Always be polite and thankful to the host school.
The bus ride to the host school is a time to focus. Stay in your seat quietly thinking about the game. Be sure to listen during attendance and instructions. Make sure to show respect for our driver and pick up all trash before exiting the bus.
Attention Parents/Guardians!!!!!
On the day of the game be sure to download, complete and return a release form if you are taking your child directly home from an away game. Release forms help the coaches track who is on the bus and who is not (If for some reason you do not have a release form filled out, make sure you speak with the coach before taking your child home).
We normally get back around 6:00 from a game, but this may vary from game to game. If we know the arrival time will be different, we will let you know as soon as possible. Keep in mind we will be arriving back too late for the activity bus, so it is important that players have someone to pick them up at Pine Lake upon our return. A coach will be staying with the players until their ride comes. Out of courtesy, please be on time.
END OF SEASON PARTY
At the end of the season, we will be having a team celebration in the Pine Lake commons. The date will be announced later in the season. In that past, this has been pizza and hoop games.
This is a great time to turn in uniforms. Please clean all clothing and place it in a bag with other equipment borrowed from the school. Neatly write the player’s name on the bag and turn it in to the location provided.
